Okay I posted this on my forum and I was hoping that maybe you guys could help me out and give me some ideas? It's a Gears of War and a Halo forum.

Here's what I posted on there:

Quote:
We need ideas on how to raise money to buy a domain name and paid hosting for this website. Currently we have free hosting, but I'm hoping that we can get paid hosting soon. Please note I pay full for it, so no staff members, no matter how generous you are Tongue, pay for hosting. It's better if you just let me handle it because I know what I'm doing.

Okay, back to ideas. We need money and I don't want to use ads unless we have to. Ads, IN MY OPINION, draw away members and visitors. We don't want that to happen. I'm more than happy to have to pay for hosting, but we just need to find out how to GET the money. Money raised will go to paying for hosting, a domain name, and other things to help out the site. We really need ideas here people, so no matter how shy you are, I want you to try and post a good idea. Please, it's not for me to make money, it's for the site to raise money for it's cause.

Oh, and Mike and his advertising gang THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU SHOULD STOP ADVERTISING! We aren't that close to our monthly traffic limit so PLEASE TRY AND BRING IN AS MANY MEMBERS as you can. If worst comes to worse, I can contact Awardspace, who is the current hosting company for this forum board.

Like I said bring in more members, just post up your money making ideas. Thanks guys

Can you guys help? I really don't want to post ads unless I have no other choice.

Hmmm. I didn't know AwardSpace improved their free hosting. Getting back on task, I'm a member of this site that rewards you for posting, so they either give you a domain name for free OR free hosting. They actually do it, because I received a domain name from them. And yes, it's under your name. They transfer it to your account via their registrar.

However, you will have post perhaps ~100 + posts to achieve either the domain name or the hosting.
http://idotsource.com/index.php say Tech2k referred you Smile

Right now, you can definitely still get the hosting they offer, however, as for the domain, you might have some competition. But there's still a few left, and I think he might add more, so you'll probably be able to get it.

Good luck
Not being rude, but I'd rather pay (even though I don't have the money lol) than have to basicaly beg to get a domain name. It's annoying how people want you to post to get domain names. It might advertise for their forum, but it doesn't help out your spare time. I've got to many comitments right now, but I'm happy that you showed me. I don't mind, but I was hoping for an idea, not a string attached deal.

Does, any one else (or even you NJer), have any other ideas than joining a forum?
Hmmm.affiliate programs, but that's kind of like putting ads on your site. And will not be affected unless your users sign up & sometimes they have to pay or use a credit card to activate, so it's more hassle.

Sorry.
No problem. Well do you think that maybe I should have a VIP and paid members section? The only problem is I don't know what speical feature they would have.
Sure that could work. However, you said your forum is about Halo & Gears Of War right? Hmmm. I don't know what kind of reward you could offer for that.

Do the majority of your users own a website (even a clan site, or perhaps are in a clan). Maybe you could offer some free clan hosting (like as a sub part of your site), or link to their website.
you could put adsense on and in a couple of months you coud probably cover all the costs or ask for donations from members (although i doubt you will get any).

before putting any sort of advertisement on you need to check whether you host allows them, especially since they are a free host.
Why wouldn't a free host allow ads? They've allowed Adsense so far
I think he meant in general, because some free hosts don't allow your own ads. Awardspace does allow it though, actually, I think any host that doesn't put THEIR ads on it, lets you put your own.

I don't really find Adsense annoying though, maybe you could limit it to only 1 skyscraper or 1 of the button ads. I doubt that you'll lose any users if you put Adsense in it. Popups on the other hand. but that's another story.
