Hello. I am new to Webbers Corner, and may be posting this in the wrong spot.
So if I am, please correct me, and move it to an appropriate place.
I am in search for MySQL Database hosting, for a forum.
I would like to to keep my forum on my subdomain, and use a MySQL Database from another server to host my database. (I guess this is called a remote MySQL ?)
Anyhow, I have yet to find one.
I don't want one that comes with website hosting, but one just for databases, like FreeSQL, but the ability to hold alot of space, or unlimited.
Could anyone suggest some places for me?
Thanks,
Dr Small
i have never done this but i would assume if you speak to most hosts they would offer it.
why do you want it separate to your hosting anyway?
Well, to put it this way, I'm only looking for freehosts.
So, I found Freehostia, but their database only holds 10 MB's of information.
So, I thought if I could find a remote MySQL database host, where I could store all my SQL info, I wouldn't have to worry about the SQL Database on Freehostia.
Dr Small
if your after free hosting i would check out
http://www.ahplace.com (the other admin here helps run it).
they offer very generous packages, all ad free and i assume u/l db size as it runs on cpanel.
if you after free mysql FreeSQL is by far the best around and most reliable.
it is always risky to mix two free services together as generally free is always reliable and so because you are using two serivces the down time is likely to be double.
if you are after paid mysql hosting i would just go for paid hosting normally. you are likely to pay as much, if not more for sql hosting so why not just get normal hosting? i don't know of any good sql hosts as i have never required it.
maybe, but I read on their website that FreSQL is not to be used for running forums.
Dr Small
ah right, well thats a bit of a bummer.
i assume you want another free sql hosting?
also is it a big forum? if so i maybe interested in hosting you.
Well if your talking about renting a server, you can just rent a database server then set the forums hostname as the ip address of the server instead of localhost, then do it that way. Thats what i have to do for a couple of my websites

10bm is an extremely large database. this forums is only 4mb so it will be a while until you reach that amount.
If I was you I would invest in hosting. Places like dreamhost have good reputations and at $7/month you get plenty of space and bandwidth to last your forever. Free hosts (especially ad free) are unreliable and people will be put off by that if they visit and it is continuously down.
have you tried
http://www.freewebhostingtalk.com? a lot of free hosts are there and if you request some hosting you will often get paid hosting for free!
Well there is
http://www.freesql.org you can get a free mysql database with phpmyadmin access, but I think they still have the rule of no forum databases, but you might want to check again.
