Alright, here's the problem. I'm using an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard and a ATI Radeon 9600 XT graphics card. These two pieces of hardware do NOT like each other in the slightest.
The problem, if I remember correctly, is the AGP bus speed. At 8X, ANY 3D acceleration will reset the system after only a few seconds. At 4X, the card runs perfectly.
However I recently decided to try out Vista and the ATI drivers don't have SmartGard, the thing that allowed me to change the bus speed to 4X in the first place. My BIOS has an option for AGP speed, but it is always grayed out and set to 8X.
Are there any other options for setting the speed to 4X in either the card or the BIOS?
