Ok, so I downloaded GIMP not too long ago and am still testing it out.  Harder than I thought it would be originally but hopefully I'll get by the learning curve.

I also downloaded a program called "Blender" last week (3-d graphics), but have yet to really test it out.

Any other graphics programs that I should check out?  I'd prefer open source so I can use them for commercial purposes if I want.
Try SourceForge, they provide relevant and free softwares by other developers regardless or Open Beta or Close Beta. I remember there's another site that provides such features too, but forgotten. I would prefer GIMP to PS (Photoshop) unless there's a new(few) softwares related to the category, I would choose to tryout them before consider using it. -Or hear from reviews.
GIMP is decent for a free graphics program. Usually I use photoshop or fireworks, which are very much not free, but when I'm in a linux mood, I'll use GIMP because it's the only thing I cared to install on my linux box, graphics editor-wise.
The good thing about GIMP is that it's cross platform, so it will work on Linux as well. So if you ever switch over to Linux, or need to work in a Linux environment, you'll adjust right away.
Paints my all time favourite. Wink
I am using GIMP also. It's a great tool. I am yet to pick up all the functions yet, but if one gives little time then it's easy to pick up. I have to find a better tutorial for GIMP now.
Hmm, never heard of Blender to be honest. I don't like GIMP though. It's so basic. There are ways to get Adobe Photoshop for free though. I'd rather not talk about that though :p
you can get the old version of jasc paintshop for free. but its a bit aged these days.
I use Irfanview for using basic stuff such as resizing, cropping, and converting images to different formats.
gimp is hands down the best free photoshop app. but using torrents might be the best free method Smile
