Yes, Google has been offering Office software as a beta test to it's users. Anyone who have a GMail account can access this online office very easily. As of now I can find Docs and Spreadsheet available. Needless to say this is an online Office.
Yarr, I saw this a few weeks ago.
here is the address if anyone wants to take a look -
http://docs.google.com/. to be honest i haven't really had a go with it but one of the features i really like is the ability to upload documents to the system and then edit them. great when you are on the move.
another great feature is its export abilities to not only doc files but pdfs and many other formats. i don't think i would ever use the server properly but it just shows how much can be on the web now. i urge anyone to check it out, it works just like word.
I checked it out, sweet if your on the run, and need to type something up u need to have access to later to print out etc. Definitely will use in the future, thanx for the link!
Really nice. But I think it will have mixed responses. While it is good to access your files online but many like me are worried about the security of the data. I think the concerns will be cleared when we come to know more about it.
obviously putting any information online won't be as safe which is why i probably wouldn't put any personal files on there. i think there is the possibility to share files or make them private.
it is good for general use and maybe if you are on a computer without microsoft office but apart from that i really see little point to it.
it is nice it's there but i am unsure how popular it would be.
I would never put personal files on there anyway.
sweet, but doesn't work on opera yet, i had to mask it as mozilla. it looks good, for this kind of stuff i always used to type it in an email and send it to myself (

), but ofcourse i'll have to edit it later). i can actually use this as an webbased word processing app. on a computer without Word

didn't you say in the other thread there are hardly no compatibility issues with opera?
I've been using Google Docs since it was Writely.com and I love it. It's my main word processor. If I'm not using that, then I'm using Openoffice. It's great if you're constantly hopping from computer to computer or if you are collaborating with someone else. Obviously it's useless if you can't get online though. I haven't used the spreadsheets much, but I would assume they're pretty good.
As far as security is concerned, I suppose that's always an issue, but how many of us bank online. Online banking is very secure and that's not even their primary business. Google's speciality is the internet. I would say they understand more about online security than the most high-tech bank in the world.
I have never used it - but a very layperson's question - how well does it work with MS Office. Since most people use that - what happens if I send them a document using Google Office. Would they have problems ?
you save the google document in either the word document format or as a pdf so it should be 100% compatible.
