Linux will never take over Windows, and there is a simple reason, which everyone knows, and i will not explain.

I am sure we have few Linux users here. The speed at which Linux is increasing it's market share gives me the feeling that finally we have and OS which has the potential to become an alternative to Windows.

I would give it a go but I don't have a spare computer at the moment.

i don't think anything will take over windows for a long time.  and it will be apples if anything.

I use windows at the moment and going to move to macs in the near future.  I have never even considered linux because i am not sure about software available and for the strange reason its free!  I don't think i could trust my whole pc being ran on it even if it is more secure than windows.

that's a good reason. btw, as long as microsoft stay a monoploy and as long as companies as dell, acer, hp, etc. deliver their pc's with windows, linux won't have a chance. we all know linux it's fee and perhaps even better, but because there's a better support/software (due to microsoft's monopoly) for windows, people will keep using it.

Hmm i don't think that is the keyfactor. more so because linux is very programing based, and you need to be a programmer to make it do what you want, yes there is software already made for it, but the same goes for windows, why will people move to an operating system which they will have to learn how to use and how to program maybe a little, when they already have an OS which they can fully use.

Is it only a trial? Or like a free download of the full version?

That's one of the main reasons I haven't switched to OS X or Linux completely. Smile

i find it strange that games aren't supported in other formats.

Do you have to buy Red Hat Linux? I saw $178 to download. lol
Cool, I will have to check into that more. Thanx skycade!

I'm starting with ubuntu. I like it! Not that easy to setup on a ASUS LAPTOP with a ATI grafic card! But overall its cool to have dualboot machine.

Need windows to work. But Ubuntu is great for viewing webpages, media and stuff. Still learning stuff to get more from ubuntu.

thats a similar position to me.

i have had a lot of problems with setting up my dual screens with an nvidia graphics card.
