I have heard of eco hosts but today i stumbled across one - http://www.horus.ch/horus.en.shtml

all seems good until you get the the price. for 200mb webspace and 1gb bandwidth it is £9/month and on top of that there is a £30 activation fee! which is a hell of a lot.
cynproweb.com
very good hosting
but they are not eco hosts, just normal.
that is outrageous! I wonder what sorry sap would use that!
Here is another which is wind power instead of solar - http://www.sustainablehosting.com/

a little cheaper too.
Woah, I didn't know such sites existed. Shouldn't it be cheaper though? I think in depends where the host is at though. But I'm pretty sure in the U.S, if you use solar energy, the government or something, gives you $.
the use of solar power is subsidised but there are a lot more setup costs to a normal server because you need to purchase a solar panel or turbine and even with the subsidies it isn't cheap, then you need all the normal server equipment.
So an eco host uses solar power?
What happens at night?

they don't have to use solar power, it is just any sort of renewable energy so wind, sea, sun w.e.

and the energy from the solar panels are stored for use at night.

can i get a host that used geothermal power? that would be HOT! LOL Big Grin
