For the past few months I have been desperate to have my own personal blog to publish articles etc on.

I have been looking around to see which on I prefer.  I think i have looked at nearly every big one -

wordpress
movable type
textpattern
drupal

some of them, i know are more suited to cms rather than blogs.

current top of the list is wordpress for the pure reason of its simplicity and the amount of plugins although taking a quick look at the themeing system it seems quite complex.

can anyone recommend one, on the above list or not?

I think Wordpress is probably the best choice if it is just going to be a blog site but that is my personal opinion.  Drupal would be my next choice on your list if I wanted to do more then just blog.

i am giving drupal ago for my blog.  it seems to do everything a normal blog software could do plus i have the option to expand to a website.

I would have to agree that wordpress is probably the best out there. Wordpress is the only blogging software I have used and I am really pleased with it.

I have only toyed around with Blogger.  It had some interesting plug ins (such as the MS Word plugin), and it ties in with some of Google's features which makes it convenient.  However, I imagine there are some other blog programs that are better.  

What kinds of plug ins are there with Drupal or Wordpress?  I'm thinking of putting a blog together one of these days but haven't gotten around to evaluating different software.

I love wordpress. I have two wp blogs myself and can't praise the software enough. It's a great community too.

If you're looking for a blogging service, vox.com is pretty good. I crosspost to them from my main blog. They are owned by Six Apart, the same guys who own LiveJournal, Movable Type, & TypePad.

Wordpress is definitely the best choice as stated above.

i like wordpress and the only reason i am using drupal is i can theme best out of all the cms. the nice thing about drupal is the huge amount of support for it with other sites such as flickr and plugins.
