EDIT: the glowing things at the back are gone in some pics, normally there should be a gray glow at the back of every image

yes, flash used to be my favourite program, but it's not really a drawing application, so i've tried illustrator, at the beginning it's really difficult, 'cause it has completely another system than flash.
but well, i've brought myself an excellent book and i've been watching lots of training video and now i'm pretty good at it 
I like the second thumbnail attachment you posted. Recently I have been using nothing but photshop but I might try illustrator as those graphics came out pretty good.
it's not difficult though, it can be made with any program which has glowing effect and gradient fill, other than that, i just used existed fonts (beside that X)
EDIT: sorry, i thought you meant the other one. if you mean the red fire-like one, it could be made in photoshop aswell, i just hand-drawed (mouse-drawed) that using some kind of brush. then applying some kind of filter and a glowing effect (which come from photoshop).
they could be better, i think you are choosing the wrong matching colours
